Welcome from the Head Coach....
Hello, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Head Coach of Newtown Swimming Club. My name is Paul Hillman.
I spent 16 years of my youth training as a competitive swimmer and achieved North of England RLSS Champion and three Presidents Awards for services to lifesaving. I held the World Record for Treading Water in 1982 and 1984
and I well understand the highs and lows of training and competing.
I hold Welsh Athletics Coach Level 3 and coached athletics to National Level for 15 years but it is fair to say that I have a passion for swimming and have been coaching with our club for around 15 years. I hold the ASA Level 2 Coaching Certificate, STA Advanced Teachers Certificate and RLSS Teacher. I enjoy sharing my experience with our swimmers but the best part is seeing them succeed when they have trained hard to learn new skills and techniques.
We are a small but mighty club that will provide you with fun and training to help you achieve your aims in swimming.
We will support you and your family through training, advice and opportunities to compete at whatever level of competition you feel you are happy to enter.
My team of coaches and volunteers will help you develop your skills and swimming in a fun, safe way, although sometimes it will stretch you - this is what improves your swimming.
I value regular communication between parents and coaches. So, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me; however, I will be unavailable to talk during practice as my attention is solely focused on the swimmers, though our three team managers will be available during session times.
There will also be times when you will be asked to provide help at meets your swimmer attends. Swimming is an ‘official heavy’ sport where up to 25 or more judges and marshalls are needed to run the meet. Don’t worry these will not onerous or boring tasks and you may even enjoy immersing yourself in the meet atmosphere!
So a very big warm welcome to our small but successful club, enjoy your time with us and get involved!
Have fun, smile and train hard,
